15 Minutes a Day to Effectively Control Diabetes

Here is a 15 minutes a day regimen for effectively controlling diabetes, through the yoga way. This regimen can be followed anytime of the day and anywhere. It only requires two things to prove effective: 1. it is done regularly, 2. perseverance for at least few months. Moreover, it is not a replacement of medical treatment, but a catalytic supplement.

The regimen includes few yoga mudras, as mentioned below:

Sit comfortably either on a chair or on the floor cross-legged. Loosen your body muscles by mindfully breathing in and out a few times.

  1. Surya (Sun) Mudra: Keep your palms on your knees, facing upwards. Fold ring fingers of each hand, while keeping the other fingers straight. Bring thumbs of each hand over the folded ring finger, as shown in the below pic. Keep index finger and middle finger touching together. Maintain this position for 2-3 minutes. If possible, close your eyes and concentrate on your body/ breath. This mudra helps in improving metabolism in the body.Surya Mudra
  2. Prana Mudra: Keep your palms on your knees, facing upwards. Fold the ring finger and little finger of each hand, while keeping the other two fingers straight. Fold the thumb to touch tip of the thumb with the tips of ring finger and little finger, as shown in the pic below. Keep index finger and middle finger touching together. Maintain this position for 2-3 minutes. If possible, close your eyes and concentrate on your body/ breath. This mudra along with the Apana Mudra (explained below) helps in controlling diabetes.Prana Mudra
  3. Apana Mudra: Keep your palms on your knees, facing upwards. Fold the middle finger and the ring finger together, keeping the other two fingers straight. Fold the thumb to touch tip of the thumb with the tips of the folded middle and ring fingers. Make a circle of the folded fingers, as shown in the pic below. Maintain this position for 2-3 minutes. If possible, close your eyes and concentrate on your body/ breath. This mudra should be done immediately after the Prana Mudra (explained above). The Prana Mudra and Apana Mudra help in lowering blood sugar by detoxifying it.Apana Mudra
  4. Gyan Mudra: Keep your palms on your knees, facing upwards. Fold the index finger and thumb such that the tip of the thumb touches the tip of the index finger. Make a circle. Rest of the fingers should remain straight, as shown in the pic below. Maintain this position for 2-3 minutes. If possible, close your eyes and concentrate on your body/ breath. The mudra helps in reducing stress levels.Gyana Mudra
  5. Linga Mudra: Intertwine the fingers of both your hands together, while keeping the base of both the palms touching together. Keep your left thumb upright and lock it by the right thumb by wrapping it around the upright left thumb, as shown in the pic below. Maintain this position for 2-3 minutes. If possible, close your eyes and concentrate on your body/ breath. The mudra helps in reducing obesity by increasing the fire element in the body.Linga Mudra
